This job ad is to fill training academy positions for anticipated full time vacancies in the 2024-2025 school year.

 

You cannot be a Pasco County School Safety Guard in any capacity without obtaining certification as a Safe School Guardian, which is what this application is for.


Academy Dates:
The academy will be held in Hillsborough County. The tentative dates are January 6 - January 29.


Typically training academy days are as follows: Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm (hours and days may vary). To attend this academy, all training days must be attended in full.


This training will prepare you for the responsibility for performing a variety of duties related to protecting students, school staff, visitors, equipment, facilities, and grounds under the supervision of site administrator or designee and the Chief of Safety and Emergency Operations if chosen for a full-time or substitute position.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years minimum law enforcement, first responder, security, or military experience. 
  • Experience with safe use of firearms and tasers, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Pre-employment requirements prior to starting academy 

  • POET (Post offer employment physical and drug screening)
  • Psychological Assessment
  • Criminal Background Check/Fingerprinting

CERTIFICATE, LICENSES & REGISTRATION

  • Florida Driver License
  • Valid Florida-issued Concealed Carry Weapons permit (applied for prior to being selected and issued prior to the start of the training academy, unless extenuating circumstances that would delay the issuance)
  • OR

  • Valid HR218 (LEOSA) certification. An academy certification will not be issued until this is fulfilled.

  • Successful completion of training as required by FSS 30.15, Laws of Florida provided by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office as a condition of employment and ongoing certification and training.

  • Receive and maintain a School Guardian certificate from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office Satisfactory completion of American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course and Firearm Qualification during the academy.
